✨ This week in Astoria: Jan 12th - 18th

ASTORIA LIVE | January 12th, 2026

Hello Astoria,

It’s been a week of headlines (honestly… when is it not?). In times like these, I believe connecting locally, in real life, with your community is the best way to cope and make the world a little bit better.

I recently sent out a survey, and so far the feedback is clear. Your top interests are:

  1. Local events (of course)
  2. Clubs and communities to join
  3. Volunteer opportunities

I’ve been building all of this into the new Astoria Live website I’m working on, but it’s taking a little longer than expected to hit “publish.”
Until then, here are a few of my faves:

Our House
In addition to being a co-working space, Our House hosts a plethora of community events, a recurring climate action meetup, unfinished object craft nights, and more. All are very welcoming and open to folks attending solo.

Astoria Trash Club
Apparently, trash clubs are the new run clubs. The latest entrant into this genre in our neighborhood is the Astoria Trash Club, with meetups to clean up the neighborhood AND make friends.

Astoria Reading Party
There are actually quite a few "quiet reading party" groups in Astoria, as well as many book clubs. One of my favorites is Astoria Reading Party, which started out on 31st Ave Open Street and hosts meetups around the neighborhood.

Ladies First Astoria
This friendly meetup for women in Astoria has been running since 2018, with a range of fun events from casual happy hours and movie nights to murder mystery parties.

Astoria Runners
Run with friends! This NYRR registered run club has lots of local running opportunities to connect.

Astoria Food Pantry
The first stop for aspiring volunteers is surely the Astoria Food Pantry. And, beyond volunteer opportunities, there are a ton of social events open to anyone as a fundraiser, including weekly game nights on Thursdays, open mic nights, and more.

Cheers,
Stacey
